		<description>Yes, food for thought.  I agree that appealing to the sense of generosity (helping others) and not a sense of selfishness (promoting myself) will motivate people to write books and promote their services. 
I wrote my soon-to-be published book with both factors in mind.  I really want to share what I know (help people), but it would be nice if some of the readers then used my services (accounting in my case).

I agree with the thought that after reading your book some of your readers will gain the confidence the enquire about your services.  I still think that is still part of the real sense of helping others because without your accounting services they could find themselves financially disadvantaged.  Not letting people know how your expertise can help them is doing them no favours - they need to know so they can take advantage of what you offer.
